Wordpress.com vs. Blogger.com

wordpress vs blogger

Wordpress and blogger referred here are two hosting service for those who cannot afford webspace and domain for their blogs. Both of these sites have their own advantages and disadvantages. Here is a comparison for those who are wondering what chose. I`ll not give a solution to the wondering, but after you will read this, you might be in a position to make a choice for yourself. Here I`ll try to compare both of them from an objective point of view.

Wordpress supports categories, an important feature that is missing from blogger. Blogger has more choices for templates, but Wordpress has ones that are a little more professional looking. Blogger offers direct access to the template files which means that advanced users can have full control over the blog while wordpress offers minimal customization options. You can customize your template but Blogger does not give you the possibility of creating pages, at wordpress, you can maintain some “static” pages. Another nice feature that is missing from blogger is that it does not show the smileys as images, wordpress does.

In blogger you have no “File Upload” features like in wordpress and you also don`t have a section where you can see your uploaded files and manage them.

Both, wordpress and blogger support multiple blogs per person and allows more persons to have access and manage a blog.

Wordpress has a more attractive interface than blogger does; it does offer lots of features, looks more professional and also more user-friendly than the one at blogger that is too simple in my personal opinion.

The system for spam comment filtering has recently been introduced at blogger and is limited to word verification. Wordpress provides aksimet which provides advanced capabilities it also can show posts only to selected users an you can protect your posts by password. There is no inbuilt site tracking mechanism in blogger and you have to rely on external counters while wordpress provides a fairly detailed one.

You cannot add Adsense on wordpress while blogger lets you do this. It`s not a “must have” feature but there are a lot of bloggers that wants to make money from their blogs and it`s normal to be so.

Blogger offers the possibility to post through e-mail, it offers a helpful feature, you have a unique email address for each post, and then, you just need to email your uploads. Wordpress doesn’t have this option.

Blogger offers the possibility to have a mobile blog but you have to send your posts by e-mails or MMS from your cell phone (one blog per cell phone) while wordpress offers you the possibility to log in from a mobile device and to find an user-friendly interface in which you can make posts and view stats on your blog…it`s not much but in comparison with blogger, it is. An interesting feature that wordpress offers is that it can show posts only to selected users and you can protect your posts by password.

Personally, I prefer wordpress because of its advanced features and options. I think blogger a little bit too simple, it`s for newbies.
