Most of us use Google daily but we don’t know what goes on behind the funny-looking logo. In this post i will tell you about 10 tricks you can pull off using nothing but the Google search box.

  1. Local time

Ever wondered what time it is in different countries? You can use Google to find out by searching for “what time is it” followed by the city of your choice.
    Example:

    what time is it cairo
  2. Flight status

Google provides precise information such as flight departure and arrival times. Just enter the airline and flight number.
    Example:

    Delta flight 5778

  3. Unit conversion

Pretty much the most of us don’t know conversion rates between different units such as miles, gallons, meters, kilobytes, teaspoons, etc. Google’s powerfull built-in calculator can help you out with this one.
    Examples:

    quarter cup in teaspoons
    seconds in a year
    5 USD in Euro
    144 bytes in kilobytes
    17 in binary
  4. Comparison

Google can be used as a comparison tool between different things. For example, using “better than” retrieves superior objects that the queried one. “Reminds me of” can be used to find similar things.
    Examples:

    better than mIRC
    reminds me of Metallica
  5. Free proxy

In need for a free, reliable proxy? You can use Google’s cache to load up pages that you don’t have access to or do not want do be directly connected with.
    Example:

    cache:example.com
  6. Search directly for files

Muisc, videos, e-books, documents, software, archives, etc. can be found by using a search string for known extensions. You can find anything hosted on rapidshare, to.
    Examples:
    -inurl:(htm|html|php) intitle:”index of” +”last modified” +”parent directory” +description +size +(wma|mp3) “Nirvana”
    -inurl:(htm|html|php) intitle:”index of” +”last modified” +”parent directory” +description +size +(pdf|doc) “george orwell 1984″

  7. Face search

For example you want to find images of Victor Jersey but you don’t want to be flooded by a bunch of New Jersey photos, all you have to do is use Google’s face recognition query.
    Example:

    rose &imgtype=face
  8. Looking for synonyms

If you don’t want to define an exact word for object, you simply place a ~ besides the chosen word and Google will consider both your search query and the synonyms of the designated word.
    Example:

    ~house cooking
  9. Define words

Finding out what different words mean has never been more easy. Just type “define:” besides the word and behold.
    Example:

    define:blog
  10. Use webcams to spy on people

This is my favorite one yet. Manny online surveillance systems are unprotected and can be viewed by anyone. It’s more fun when you can move the angle of the camera and turn on the lights.
    Examples:

    inurl:/view.shtml or inurl:view/index.shtml
    sample/LvAppl/
    control/userimage.html
    /app/idxas.html
    intitle:”V.Networks [Motion Picture(Java)]”
  11. That’s about it for now but stay tunned because their’s more to come.
